Carbon deposits in combustion chamber should be removed every 250 to
300 hours of use (more often when run at steady load).
4. Cylinder head
Using wire brush, remove carbon deposits from

inder bore. Replace damaged or leaking pipe plug.
6. Cylinder head,
Replace defective components. Refer to illustration
for assembly of cylinder head (8), cylinder assembly
(6), and crankcase cover (4).
Always note position of different cylinder head screws. Damage can
result from putting screws in wrong holes.
Place cylinder head (8) with new cylinder head
gasket (7) in position on cylinder.
Do not turn one screw down completely before others. Doing so can
warp cylinder head.
8. Cylinder head
Apply antiseize compound
(Appendix E, Item 1) on
screw (9 and 10) before
installing in cylinder head.
Three screws (9) are longer
than other five screws (10).
Install longer screws in
holes 2, 3, and 7 as shown.
Install shorter screws with
washer (11) in holes 1, 4,
8, 5, and 6. Tighten all
screws evenly by hand.
Then use torque wrench to
tighten screws in the sequence
shown beginning with 1. Torque
screws to 140 in lb (15.8 Nm).
