TEST
1. If necessary, set the multimeter to measure resistance in the 10 ohm range.
2. Place probe No. 1 in contact with TEGs grey wire and probe No.2 in contact with the TEGs
white/grey wire. Meter should read between 1and 5 Ohms. It should not read 0 (zero) Ohms or
open.
3. Replace TEG if short or open is indicated.
REPLACE
1. To install a new thermoelectric generator (1), install fiberglass rope (2) in flange grooves on both
ends of TEG.
2. While positioning the combustion exhaust outlet (33) of the heat exchanger at the 9 oclock
position, position the two input wires (3) exiting the TEG at the 1 oclock position. Align the
flanges (4) of the TEG (1) and heat exchanger (6).
3. Install new graphite ribbon tape (7) around the outside of the TEG and heater exchanger flanges
(8). Be sure to overlap the tape by approximately 2 to 3 inches.
4. Install flange clamp (9) over flanges (4) taking care to position the top of the clamp so that it is
aligned just to the left of the two input wires (3) exiting the TEG. Tighten the clamp securely.
5. Connect the two electrical connectors (10) of the thermostat reset switch (11). Remove any tags.
6. Align cutouts in wrap cover (13) with the combustion exhaust outlet (33) and position around the
heat exchanger (6). Ensure that the wrap cover is postioned so that the thermostat reset switch
(11) will be accessible through the hole in the lower housing assembly.
7. While holding the wrap cover (13) securely in position, install sheet metal screws (14) and
washers (15). Tighten all screws securely.
8. Install exhaust grommet (16) over combustion exhaust outlet (33).
9. Install the burner assembly (17) in position on the TEG flange taking care to align the flame
sensor (18) of the burner assembly with the two input wires (3) of the TEG. When properly
positioned, the two wingnuts (20) on the side of the burner assembly will be aligned with the
combustion exhaust outlet (33) of the heat exchanger (6).
10. Install new graphite ribbon tape (7) around the burner assembly (17) and TEG flanges. Be sure to
overlap the tape two to three inches.
11. Install flange clamp (34) over burner assembly and TEG flanges taking care to position the top of
the clamp just to the left of the two input wires (3) exiting the TEG. Do not rotate clamp after
installing new graphite ribbon tape. Tighten the flange clamp securely.
12. Place assembled heat exchanger, TEG, and burner assembly into heater and align combustion
exhaust outlet (33) and grommet with exhaust cutout (20) in lower housing. Be sure to engage
the groove (21) in the grommet with the cutout (20) in the lower housing assembly.
13. Tighten wingnuts (20) on side of burner assembly (17).
