(1) Clean the inside (1) and outside (2) of the main container with a solution of dishwashing detergent and
warm water. For tougher stains, use a mild scouring pad on the inside surface only of the main
container.
(2) Thoroughly flush the container and spigot (3) with water after cleaning.
3-7. SANITIZING
Sanitizing of the HWR should be performed when required by the procedures described in Chapter 2, Section
II, Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS). The HWR should be cleaned and sanitized weekly
or more frequently if food stains appear.
NON-POTABLE/DIRTY WATER (2). Only use clean, potable water as
defined in FM 10-52 (Water Supply in Theaters of Operations) when
cleaning the HWR. Non-potable or dirty water can cause contamination of
water or food.
CAUTION
IMMERSION IN WATER. Do not immerse the HWR in water. The
seeping of water to the control panel can result in the HWR becoming
non-operational.
CLEANING MATERIALS. Only use the authorized cleaning materials
listed in Section II of Appendix E. Materials such as metal scouring
pads can cause damage to the surface finish.
FOOD SERVICE DISINFECTANT. Discard heated food service
disinfectant solution in accordance with the disposal instructions in FM
21-10 (Field Hygiene and Sanitation).
