Step 3. Check spark plug spark.
Shock or injury may result from working on electrical components.
Take care to ground parts and not make personal contact.
Remove top of shield (1) and remove terminal (2) from spark plug (3). Ground cable (4) by holding
terminal (2) approximately 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) from spark plug or any metal part of engine. Turn
engine over using starting rope. If spark jumps from terminal to engine, remove spark plug, recon-
nect terminal, and ground spark plug to side of engine. Turn engine over. If there is a good strong
spark at the spark plug, go on to Step 4.
If no spark is seen at spark plug or cable, check armature assembly, trigger oil, and engine
armature assembly air gap.
Step 4. Adjust spark plug gap. The desired clearance is 0.028 to 0,033 inch (0.711 to 0.838 mm).
CAUTION
Do not bend the center electrode.
Adjust gap by bend-
ing outside electrode
until gap is properly
set.
