TM 10-4520-262-12&P 0006 00 0006 00-12 CHARGING THE BATTERY WITH A EXTERNAL CHARGER Under normal conditions, the Space Heater, Convective is responsible for recharging the on-board battery pack. However, there may be some instances where it is required that the battery be recharged using a commercially available 115 VAC to 12 VDC charger. To accomplish this, a battery charging adapter has been supplied with the heater that permits the connection of a charger to the battery pack. WARNING Do not allow the metal terminals of the battery charging adapter to come in contact with the metallic portion of the heater. CAUTION Do not permit the battery charger terminals to come in contact with the metal casing of the heater as this may cause damage to the battery pack assembly. NOTE No grounding is necessary when using the battery charging adapter. To charge the battery (1) with a commercial 115 VAC to 12 VDC battery charger, disconnect the battery connector (2) from the heater and engage the connector on the end of the battery charging adapter with the connector on the battery pack. Connect the positive (+) lead of the charger to the red (+) wire (3) of the battery charging adapter and the negative (-) lead of the charger to the black (-) wire (4)of the battery charging adapter. Once the charger is connected to the battery charging adapter properly, turn on the power to the charger. Depending upon the battery temperature, recharge time for the battery will be approximately 30 minutes. The battery will take longer to recharge in cold weather conditions. 1 2 3 4
