4-54 GENERATOR EXHAUST STACK AND SPARK ARRESTOR (CONT)

Examine cable (3) and end fittings for signs of
fatigue or other damage.
Check pop rivet (4) and screws (5) for looseness.
Tighten loose screws.
Inspect spark arrestor (6) for severe rust and
broken or clogged screen. To make closer inspec–
tion, grasp screen with needle-nose pliers and pull
spark arrestor out of generator exhaust stack (1).
If defective, replace.
REMOVAL
6. Generator ex–
Remove screws (5) and washers (7). Lift off gen–
haust stack
erator exhaust stack (1) and gasket (8). Discard
and gasket

NOTE
Replace gasket whenever generator exhaust stack is removed.
7. Exhaust cover,
Remove exhaust cover (2), cable (3), and spark
cable, and
arrestor (6). Replace defective parts.

NOTE
Replacement exhaust cover (2) has cable (3) attached by pop rivet (4). If
either exhaust cover or cable is defective, replace both as an assembly.
