5-9 ALTERNATOR STATOR (CONT)

Alternator
Disconnect alternator wires (2) at connectors (4).

If alternator wires (2) are defective, remove
stator
from wire harness (7).
TESTING
NOTE

All testing is done with a volt ohmmeter.
Alternator
Touch each probe of the ohmmeter
stator
to one of the leads (8). Pierce lead
resistance
insulation with needle to ensure
probe contact. Ohmmeter should
read between 0 and 2 ohms resistance.
If no reading is obtained, replace
alternator stator.

Alternator
stator ground
Touch one probe to one of leads (8)
and ground other probe to make sure
wires are not grounding out through
engine. If ohmmeter shows any re–
sistance, replace.
NOTE
There is no input voltage for the alternator. Output voltage with ignition pack
is 17 Vac and without ignition pack is 23 Vac.
