Clean carbon from top
ring groove. Place new
ring in groove and check
remaining space in groove
with feeler gauge. If
0.007 inch (0.178 mm)
feeler gauge can be in-
serted, piston Is worn.
Replace.
Clean all carbon from
ends of rings and cyl-
inder bore. Insert old
rings one at a time
one inch (25 mm)
down into cylinder.
Check gap between
ends of ring with
feeler gauge. If gap is
greater than 0.035
inch (0.889 mm) for
compression ring or
0.045 inch (1.14 mm)
for oil ring, replace
ring.
If bearing in connecting rod (3) and cap (17) is
scored or the bearing hole is 1.001 inches
(25.43 mm) or larger, replace parts.
If pin is worn 0.0005 inch (0.0127 mm) out of round
or 0.489 inch (12.42 mm) or smaller in diameter, replace.
If pin bearing in piston is 0.492 inch (12.50 mm) or
larger, replace piston.
