Tilt heater assembly slightly downward at the tow bar and fuel tank drain end.
Place a suitable container under fuel tank drain cock and drain any residual preservative from fuel
tank. Refer to paragraph 4-13.
Pour approximately 45 gallons of clean, fresh gasoline into fuel tank.
Place a suitable container under engine carburetor.
Gently, by hand, rotate high speed needle in carburetor clockwise until needle seats, note number
of turns required to seat needle. Refer to paragraph 430.
Rotate needle counterclockwise, sufficient turns to remove needle, spring, washer and packing
from bottom of carburetor float bowl. (It is not necessary to remove washer and packing if they re-
main in float bowl.)
Actuate engine primer pump by hand until fuel runs clean from needle opening in float bowl.
Disposal of fuel preservatives shall be disposed of in accordance with post/installation disposal pro-
cedure.
Install washer, packing (if removed from float board), spring and needle.
Gently, by hand, seat needle by rotating clockwise.
After needle is seated, rotate counterclockwise the exact number of turns as noted in remove proce-
dure.
Remove engine spark plug and clean preservative from electrodes using PD680 and blow dry
with compressor air. Refer to paragraph 434.
Install spark plug. Refer to paragraph 434.
Raise and safely block the tow bar end of heater assembly so outlet end of heater is slightly lower
than tow bar end.
Place suitable container under fuel tube drain from heat exchange outlet end.
Disconnect the two alternator wires between the engine and ignition assembly. Refer to para 421.
Start and run engine until engine runs smoothly with choke fully open. Refer to para 27.
Actuate fuel control valve using burner control knob in onoff sequence 8 or 10 times per minute
for 23 minutes to flush preservative from fuel system. Refer to para 22.
Shut off fuel flow to burner nozzle by pulling up on burner control knob. Refer to para 22.
Continue to operate engine for 2-3 minutes to purge any fuel or fuel vapor present in burner/flat
exchanger.
if fuel continues to drain from fuel drain tube with burner control knob in OFF position, the fuel check
valve must be replaced (Refer to para 4-45). Repeat steps t, u, v and w above to verify fuel system
is functioning properly (Refer to para 445).
If fuel still continues to drain from fuel drain tube with burner control knob in OFF position, the burner
control valve must be replaced (Refer to para 444). Repeat steps t, u, v and w above after replace-
ment to verify fuel system is functioning properly (Refer to para 444).
